Cameron University business forum to address Oklahoma’s oil and gas industry

Cameron University’s Bill W. Burgess Jr. Business Research Center (BRC) will host “The Changing Dynamics of Energy: Looking Back to Go Forward,” a business forum focusing on Oklahoma’s oil and gas industry. The keynote address will be delivered by Corporation Commissioner Dana Murphy. The Oklahoma Corporation Commission regulates oil and gas drilling, production and environmental protection, within the state of Oklahoma. The forum will take place on Tuesday, September 24, at 1 p.m. in the CETES Conference Center and is open to the public at no cost.

“The oil and gas industry plays a critical role in the stability and dynamism of the state’s economy,” says Dr. Syed Ahmed, Director, Bill W. Burgess Jr. Business Research Center. “The impact of Oklahoma’s existing oil and gas sites will be multiplied greatly by the controversial Keystone pipeline project which is slated to traverse the state of Oklahoma. Our expert speakers will address the variety of challenges, opportunities and issues that exist within this crucial economic sector.”

Commissioner Murphy will address the impact of the rapid and significant changes in the oil and gas industry, including the areas of technology, water conservation, air quality, and electric infrastructure. She has more than 20 years of experience in the petroleum industry including owning and operating her own private law practice specializing in oil and gas title, regulatory practice and transactional work and working as a geologist in the Oklahoma petroleum industry. She was elected to the Oklahoma Corporation Commission in November 2008.

Following her presentation, Murphy will participate in a panel discussion with David Blatt, Director, Oklahoma Policy Institute; David J. Bond, Director of External Relations, Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs; J. Terry Snider, Vice President of Production and Exploration and Co-Owner, Perkins Energy Company; and Chad Warmington, President, Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association.
