Scholarship contest winners to present entries at Cameron MLK panel discussion

Cameron University student Linda Powell of Duncan and Lawton High student Pryce Michener are the winners of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Scholarship Contest, sponsored by Cameron University and the Cameron Campus Ministry. They will present their winning entries during the MLK panel discussion scheduled for Monday, January 17 at 2 p.m. in the CETES Conference Center. A reception will be held afterward. Both the discussion and reception are free and open to the public.

Powell, a sophomore at Cameron University-Duncan, is pursuing a degree in business management. Michener is a 10th grade student at Lawton High. Each will receive a $300 cash award for their winning entries.

The MLK Celebration Scholarship Contest consists of two divisions: CU students and high school students. All entries were required to focus on the impact of King’s civil rights work and how his efforts to secure equality affected their own lives.

This year’s panel discussion will feature social activist Marc Lamont Hill, Representative T.W. Shannon, and local educator Kimberly Jones.
