Cameron faculty member celebrates release of first book with book signing

Cameron University faculty member Dr. Jim Hawkins, Assistant Professor of Education, is celebrating the release of his first children’s book, “Daddy, Tell Me a Story About the First Day of School” with a book signing. The book signing is going to be held in Oklahoma City at Full Circle Bookstore on Saturday, Sept. 17 from 3-5 p.m. The book was released by Tate Publishing on Aug, 2. The book is aimed at children from Pre-K through third grade.

“The book was written to help children understand that the first day of school is a great, fun, interesting, and educational time in their lives and to not be afraid,” Dr. Hawkins says. “I used the names of people who were my teachers, coaches, and friends.”

“Daddy, Tell Me a Story About the First Day of School” tells the story of Jimmy. Nervous about his first day of school, he asks his father what it will be like. Daddy tells Jimmy about riding the bus, meeting the principal, and playing at recess. This helps Jimmy overcome his fear. The book is available in paperback, in CD audio book format, and as an eBook.

Hawkins says that he plans to write several books using the “Daddy, Tell Me a Story About…” scenario. Upcoming topics include a first baseball game, first fishing experience, and what it was like growing up on a farm.
