Cameron University student Carol Cunningham accepted to international art exhibition

Cameron University art major Carol Cunningham has been accepted into the 26th Annual International Exhibition, a juried competition organized by the Department of Art and Art History at The University of Texas at Tyler. Cunningham’s watercolor and ink painting “2010” was selected for the exhibition, which will be on display at the Meadows Gallery on the UT-Tyler campus through March 4, 2011.

photo of artwork titled Cunningham, a senior art major from Sterling, will receive a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in studio art with an emphasis in painting this spring. She has been accepted into the Master of Fine Arts studio art program at Texas Tech University, where she will begin her graduate studies in the fall.

Nationally renowned contemporary artist Cotter Luppi served as juror and selected Cunningham’s watercolor and ink painting “2010” from more than 250 entries. Cunningham created her painting as a reaction to the 2010 BP oil spill.

“My thought was to document the incident and bring to light the tragedy suffered by the animals below the ocean’s surface,” she says.
