Cameron University students garner awards at AITP Region 3 conference

Cameron University students attending the Region 3 Student Conference of the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) were among more than 190 participants from Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas who gathered in Huntsville, Texas for the annual event. Students Sona Aryal and Abhas Bhatt, both of Kathmandu, Nepal; Ashim Ghimire of Pokhara, Nepal; Delvis Simmonds of Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis; and Philmore Thompson of Charlestown, St. Kitts and Nevis, brought home awards from the student competition portion of the conference. In addition, the Cameron AITP chapter was recognized as an outstanding chapter.

Thompson placed second in Security Assessment, while Aryal and Ghimire earned third place in the Mobile Applications category. Simmonds and Bhatt placed third in PC Troubleshooting.

The conference took place at Sam Houston State University, and 24 schools were represented.

Now in its 28th year, the Annual AITP Region 3 Student Conference is designed for students planning careers in information systems or related fields.  The conference supplements traditional IT education by offering attendees industry speakers who cover the latest industry trends and issues through educational sessions, student competitions, and networking opportunities with other IT students and professionals.
