Cameron University’s Dr. Abbas Johari, Professor of Computing and Technology, will begin his fourth term as editor of the International Review section of Educational Technology Research and Development (ETR&D) Journal on January 1, 2012. The ETR&D Board approved the selection of Johari earlier this year.
ETR&D Journal is the premier research-based publication of the Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT), which recognized Johari at its annual convention in November. He was honored with AECT’s Presidential Award for his important contribution to the association and in recognition of the time and effort he contributed to AECT's flagship research publication since becoming International Review editor in 2002.
In his continuing role as International Review editor, Johari will manage the selection of research and development papers that have a specific national or regional focus beyond North America or Europe. ETR&D Journal is the only scholarly journal in the field focusing entirely on research and development in educational technology.
Johari’s renewed term as International Review editor is for three years, although he plans to step down before the end of the term.
“I have notified the board that I will resign at the beginning of January 2013, which will be the conclusion of one decade of editorship work for a major scholarly journal,” Johari says. “I plan to focus on changing practices in undergraduate education, in particular taking on the issues of social class and the inclusion of disadvantaged students in the fields of science and technology.”
