Cameron University invites alumni and friends to Cruise on Home for Homecoming 2010

Cameron University invites alumni, friends and supporters to "Cruise On Home" for CU's annual Homecoming celebration. From February 19-20, the Cameron campus will feature a variety of events, including a bonfire and pep rally, basketball games, coronation of the homecoming king and queen, and the third annual Athletics Hall of Fame banquet.

The Third Annual CU Athletics Hall of Fame Reception and Banquet takes place on Friday, February 19, beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the CU Fitness Center. This year's honorees are Allen Colson (baseball), Darrell Jones (baseball), Ralph "Ty" Hertzler (basketball, football, track), Werdon "Whick" Parrack (basketball, football, track), Leroy Jackson (basketball), Donna McGill-Dilks (volleyball, basketball) and Harvey Pate (basketball coach). Dinner tickets are $30 and can be purchased from the Office of Alumni Relations, 581-2288.

Following the gala Hall of Fame induction, the excitement moves outdoors as CU students present and past join faculty, staff and fans for a bonfire and pep rally at 8:30 p.m. The action takes place south of Cameron Village.

On Saturday, February 20, get your day off to a running start by participating in the Aggie Fun Run, an energizing run/walk around the Aggie Mile. Your one-mile journey across campus will allow you to see the transformation of the CU landscape. The Aggie Mile starts in front of North Shepler. Walk or run at your own pace with your fellow Aggies. The action kicks off at 8 a.m.

Join your classmates to reminisce and catch on good times during the Aggie Family Coffees at 9:30 a.m. Stop by the Shepler Center to check in, then take a stroll down memory lane with your fellow Aggie alumni. Special reunions have also been organized for the class of 1960, young alumni who graduated between 2005-2009 and the Aggie Parents Association.

At 10:30 a.m., the Aggie Family and Friends Awards Brunch takes place in the Shepler Ballroom. During this festive occasion, the Class of 1960 will receive their Golden Associates Medallions, and the Cameron University Alumni Association will honor inductees into the Faculty Hall of Fame as well as the recipients of the Distinguished Alumni Award and the Outstanding Young Alumni Award. The event is free, although pre-registration is required. Call the Office of Alumni Relations at 581-2288 to register.

Aggie spirit gets into full swing at the Homecoming Tailgate Party in the beautiful Bentley Gardens (adjacent to the CU Fitness Center) at Noon. Join us for hot dogs, live music, face painting and more as you get ready to cheer the Aggies on to victory.

At 2 p.m., the Aggies women's basketball team tips off against East Central University, following by the men's team taking the court at 4 p.m. During halftime of the women's game, the Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2010 will be recognized. Between games, be on hand to salute members of the 1980 NAIA Men's Basketball National Championship team.  The 2010 Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned during halftime of the men's game.

Later that night, the 1980 NAIA Championship Basketball team will be honored at a dinner in the Shepler Ballroom. The 7 p.m. event is open to anyone who wants to celebrate Aggie Athletics. Tickets are $20 per person.
