CU officials encourage veterans to enroll early

Cameron University's Office of Veterans Affairs strongly encourages individuals who plan to utilize Veteran Administration educational benefits for the spring 2010 semester to enroll no later than Friday, October 23, 2009.

Enrollment at Cameron begins Monday, October 19. Graduate students and seniors can enroll on that date. Juniors can enroll Tuesday, October 20, sophomores on Wednesday, October 21, and freshmen on Thursday, October 22.  Copies of the spring 2010 enrollment schedules will be available on campus Monday, October 19, and may be accessed now online at .

Vicki Henson, Coordinator of CU's Veterans Affairs office, encourages veterans to use the days leading up to enrollment to visit with their advisors to make tentative plans for the courses they should take during the spring semester.

"All veterans should enroll as soon as possible and provide the Office of Veterans Affairs with a copy of their enrollment schedules for the spring semester," Henson says. "This facilitates a smooth continuation of educational benefits if they are currently utilizing them and allows new students to have benefits initiated faster."

Henson offered additional tips to make the financial assistance process easier for veterans:

  1. Plan course selections carefully with an advisor.
  2. Students who wish to receive reimbursement should take only required courses for their VA educational plan.
  3. Students should avoid making multiple changes to their schedules, since that delays processing of educational benefits and in some cases can cause an overpayment.

Students should provide the CU Office of Veterans Affairs, 332 North Shepler Tower, 2800 West Gore, Lawton, with a completed class schedule for the spring semester by Friday, October 23.
