CU theatre to hold open auditions for Steve Martin’s “The Underpants”

The Cameron University Department of Theatre Arts opens its 2009-2010 theatre season, Celebrating the Streets Where We Live!, with Steve Martin's "The Underpants." Open auditions for the production will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 19 and Thursday, Aug. 20 at 7 p.m. in the Cameron University Studio Theatre and are open to the entire Lawton-Fort Sill community. Director Scott Richard Klein will be casting two females and five males.

An adaptation of Carl Sternheim's early 20th century comedy, Steve Martin's "The Underpants" is set in 1910 Dusseldorf, where young housewife Louise Maske gains instant notoriety when her bloomers innocently fall down during a parade for the king, much to the chagrin of her husband Theo. "Don't underestimate the power of a glimpse of lingerie!" he moans. Suddenly, the couple find themselves with no shortage of unusual applicants to rent their spare room...coincidence? Steve Martin brings his comic genius to this outrageous look at politics, sex, and feminism. "The Underpants" will serve as CU's entry in the annual Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival.

Rehearsals will begin on Friday, Aug. 21. Performances will be held from Oct.1-4.
