Monologue
In this writing convention, a long speech is delivered by a character either to the audience or to other characters on stage with them.
The difference between this convention and a soliloquy is that the actor doesn't reveal their inner most thoughts.
Arthur Kopit's The End of the World with Symposium to Follow
is full of this writing convention as the character of Michael Trent, a
detective, addresses the audience on numerous occasions.
The play had the feeling of The Maltese Falcon starring Humphrey Bogart so we intentionally designed it to look like a black and white movie.
