I grew up and was educated in Arkansas. I received my M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in English from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. I have taught at Cameron University since 1971 and served as chair of the English Department at Cameron from 1983 to 1999. I have two children, Nicholas and Kirsten, both graduates of Cameron. I enjoy genealogy and have done extensive research into my roots. I also love to travel and have taken over 2,000 slides of country houses, gardens, and historic places in England, France, Germany, Austria, Hungary, and the United States. I teach courses in Shakespeare, Jane Austen, and Composition for Graduate Students. During the academic years 1994-97, I was the McCaslin Foundation/AmQuest Bank Chair at Cameron and Coordinator of Festival III, “Science, Technology and the 20th Century.” Since 1990 I have participated in “Let's Talk About It, Oklahoma” in Mangum, Hobart, Healdton, Duncan, Norman, Weatherford, Altus, Yukon, Mountain View, and Cheyenne.
