Top of Page MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Oklahoma: Opening of Center for Emerging Technology & Entrepreneurial Studies building (19,300 square feet for Phase 1) in May of 2005. When hired Center was valued at $2.5 million. At opening, including funds raised for Phase 2 (12,000 + square foot addition) the value was estimated to be at approximately $10.2 million and currently is $10.4 million. Money came from federal, state, county, and local levels of government in addition to three private foundations. Student team won the 1st Governor's Business Plan Competition ($23,000) in 2005. SIFE team also won Regional competition. Student project received $1000 from the Oklahoma Energy Research Board. Chaired session in Dallas at the 2005 Federation of Business Disciplines meeting on AACSB with John Fernandes, AACSB CEO and chair AACSB committee for School of Business. Approval of fully on-line MS in Entrepreneurship program with options in General Entrepreneurship, Global Entrepreneurship, and Technological Entrepreneurship; non-degree graduate certificate in Entrepreneurship, and an emphasis in Entrepreneurship for the MBA in less than one year. Established relationships to have MS in Entrepreneurship students mentor business people seeking to start new businesses in former CIS countries (Bulgaria, Estonia, & Ukraine). Program was first runner-up in the USASBE Model Graduate programs (2006) competing against the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. Center selected to serve as Beta tester for Palo Alto Feasibility study software. For the first year Entrepreneurship program evaluated by Entrepreneur and was in the top 10 Limited Curriculum programs. Taught first graduate level course in Entrepreneurship in university history (Spring 2005 - student evaluations of 3.989 out of 4). Directed research teams of 27 researchers in Japan and 338 in Europe working on projects on the customer service orientations, outcomes for, and cross-cultural communication styles of small business owners. Primary data collections in over 40 countries in Europe, North America, and Asia [externally supported]. Directed collection of field research in over 100 countries over entire career. Invited to present three papers on entrepreneurship at Oxford University in July and September, 2005. Served as the Competitive Papers Chair for the USASBE, Program Chair for the Small Business Institute, President of the SouthWest Academy of Management, and Program Chair of the Association for Small Business & Entrepreneurship. Currently serve as President of the Small Business Institute and President elect of the Association for Small Business & Entrepreneurship. Received the Amyx Endowed Lectureship in Business Education in 2005 jointly with Dr. Jason Duan. Six new business start-ups by students during the first year of the programs operation (8 in total at CU). Named to the Academy of Management Counsel of Entrepreneurship Chairs. Received distinguished research awards at the Association for Small Business & Entrepreneurship, USASBE, and SBI conferences. Also received the Distinguished Educator Award from the International Entrepreneurship Division of USASBE, the Outstanding Workshop Award from the National Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centers, and the Outstanding Research Award from the School of Business (2005). Have worked on establishing relationships between CU and universities in China, Malaysia, Estonia, Ukraine, and Bulgaria. Support person for proposed relationships in the U.K. and Taiwan. Texas: As director of the Entrepreneurship programs had the program ranked in the top 25 (2003-2004) and top 10 (2004-2005) for Entrepreneurial Emphasis programs by Entrepreneur. Program focus was on Global Entrepreneurship at the Graduate level and new business start-ups at the undergraduate. Consistently received the best student evaluations in the Department and College while also being identified as one of the most challenging professors. Twice was the nominee of the College for the University wide teaching award. Served as a reviewer for the National Academy of Science and Coleman Foundation for grants in the area of Entrepreneurship [over $1 million in grants reviewed in an academic year]. Three Fulbright trips to teach Strategic Management, Entrepreneurship, and Management in Ukraine and Latvia (2 trips). Additionally served as a recruiter for the Fulbright program for Eastern Europe and had done more than half a dozen academic presentations on the Fulbright programs. Designed a Master's of Science in Entrepreneurship program. Chaired two sessions on the AACSB with John Fernandes CEO of the AACSB and the first joint session between officers of the Academy of Management and the AACSB on how the two groups could work together. Performed funded research on the customer service of small business owners in over a dozen countries with a research team varying from 15 to 42 doctoral students and professors [all expenses covered externally]. Regularly had more than 15 new business start-ups by students per year with several having developed in to multi-million dollar businesses. Program rated # 1 in the nation for the number of new business start-ups by Center in Oct. 2003. Served as Program Chair for the Small Business Institute, Competitive Papers Chair and Vice President of Marketing for the U.S. Association for Small Business & Entrepreneurship, Program Chair of the Corporate Entrepreneurship Division of USASBE, Division Chair elect of the Family Business Division of USASBE, Vice President of Membership of the Association for Small Business & Entrepreneurship, President of the SouthWest Academy of Management, and Division Chair of Division 1 of the Academy of Management. Completed a 12-year research project on customer service with the involvement of more than 30 entrepreneurial and traditional organizations with one having been involved for more than two decades.
