Corresponding with other students via WebCT
Web Course Tools is the program we’ll use for student-student correspondence.  You must sign in to Web CT.  Click the icon from the syllabus page to sign in and go through the process.  Your login name is your first initial, middle initial, first 6 letters of your last name (all lower case).  John R. McConnley would login as jrmcconn.  Your password is first initial, middle initial, last 4 SS#’s.  John’s would be jm0500.

Once you log-in to Web CT, you’ll have to select a global  identification and password.  Please use your first initial and last name as your global ID.  Create any password you can remember!  These two changes will become your new log-in.  You should log-in to WebCT every Monday and Thursday.

WebCT will be used for student-student correspondence, testing and announcements.  To access assignments, students should go through the course calendar.

 Bulletin Board
After you login to WebCT, you’ll enter My WebCT.  From there, you’ll need to click the Web Communications and Design link to enter the course.  Then enter Communication Tools and choose Bulletins.  Use the menu on the left to compose a message (all those enrolled in the course will see the message).  To see all messages, select Show All from the left-hand menu.
Chat
Chat is a real-time feature comparable to online chatrooms, but visitors are from this class.  You may want to schedule a time to meet with one or more of your classmates to discuss a certain problem.
Private Mail
You may email your classmates through the private mail option.  To do so, click  the Private Mail icon in the Communication Tools  and select Compose from the menu on the left.   In send to, select browse and you can select a classmate.  These messages will go to the WebCT account of the student addressed.  Use Professor Hardin’s direct email address to correspond with her.

Accessing Assignments
Your assignments can be accessed from the course calendar (linked from the syllabus page).  When I receive your student information form with your email address, you will receive the login for the assignment pages via email.

Submitting assignments:
See http://www.cameron.edu/~karenh/MM2034/assignments/submitting.html
Web pages & reports:  Should be uploaded or emailed by the Friday of the week the assignment is due.
Quizzes:  May be assigned randomly on Mondays or Thursdays.  If you have a quiz, it will be announced through WebCT.
Exams:  An email announcement will be sent to you regarding when, where and how to access exams.

Keys to success

  • Stay on track.  Set 6-8 hours/week aside at a consistent time.
  • Organize course materials.  Assimilate your text readings and labs into your projects
  • Take notes.  Keep personal notes on labs and readings.
  • Do not wait until the day a project is due to ask a related question.  Ask questions as they arise.  Use the bulletin board to consult with your classmates.
  • Read your text!  Many of the test questions are taken from the text.  Study guides are available from the course calendar page to focus your reading.
