Born in Yemen, Hisham Monassar graduated with a BA in English from Sana’a University, Sana’a, Yemen in 1989.  He was appointed Teacher Assistant at the English Department, Faculty of Arts, Sana’a University in 1990.  In 1993, he was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to pursue graduate studies in English in the United States.

He holds a Ph.D. (2005) in applied linguistics from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. In addition, he holds a MA (1995) in English, MS in Information and Communication Sciences (2001), and a MA (2003) in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). 

Dr. Monassar taught English, English as a Second Language in the Middle East: Sana’a University, Sana’a, Yemen 1990-1993; Sohar University, Sohar, Oman in 2003.  During 1996-2004, he taught English as a Second Language and linguistics at Ball State University, Muncie, IN.  He taught Arabic and Arabic linguistics at Ft. Gordon, Georgia 2005-2010.

His research interests include cognitive/psycholinguistics and information processing, sociolinguistics and pragmatics, contrastive linguistics, Semitic languages and Arabic.
