Source Paper #2: How Should We See the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade?

For the past few weeks we have explored the establishment of the Atlantic world, focusing on the roles that European, Native Americans, and peoples from West Africa played in linking the societies of the Americas, Europe, and West Africa c. 1400-1800.  As part of that set of discussions we have payed particular attention to how the social order in the various European colonial societies took shape and within that conversation we've discussed the emergence of slavery.  Not all slaves in the Americas were of African origin, but most were and this is why you will be focusing on the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade for the in-class essay that you will write on March 7th.    For this essay you will write a clear, coherent, well-organized five paragraph in-class essay addressing the operation and impact of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade in which you will rely on what you learned from Ways of the World, Worlds of History, and key online sources to analyze two documents and two historians' perspectives on the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade.   Good luck!
