Secondary Literature Presentation/Discussion

On April 7th each of you will be responsible for leading class discussion for 15-20 minutes.  In your presentation, you must place two academic articles into a broader context of secondary literature on the Atlantic world.  Your articles will be drawn from your research project (although if you choose this option, please clear the articles with me) or  Maroon Societies: Rebel Slave Communities in the Americas, edited by Richard Price (Baltimore, MD: Johns Hopkins University Press, 1996, which is currently on reserve under the course title (Atlantic World) at the CULibrary.  See the presentation schedule below for the order of the presentation/discussion segments and for your article assignment.

In your presentation you should devote 3 to 5 minutes to each article's content in which you present the article's thesis, the chief findings of the article, and its ties to debates on the specific Atlantic historiography it addresses and then 3 to 5 minutes linking these two articles to 1) an article from Racine and Mabigonian and 2) an appropriate section of  Egerton et al., The Atlantic World.  After this presentation you should be prepared to answer questions for 3 to 5 minutes.  Feel free to ask questions about the assignment if it is unclear and please note that while you may end up writing your paper on the topics you address in your presentation, you need not do so.
