Informal Writing #5

In two brief commentaries totaling at least one but not more than two pages double-spaced (for both commentaries combined), in 12 pt. Times Roman or Courier font analyze the sections of Kris Lane's Quito 1599 mentioned below as the instructions provided specify.

1. Using the steps listed and described on pp. 69-79 of From Reliable Sources, analyze pp. 85-112 of Quito 1599, determining the extent to which Lane successfully uses comparison of sources to establish his points.  Be sure to cover the whole chapter and to give concrete examples to support your analysis.  Conclude this commentary with an analysis of what sources Lane's interests in this chapter call for him to use and classify their focus (political, cultural, social, economic etc.); the instructions for this section of the commentary are on pp. 84-87 of From Reliable Sources.

2. Using only the source on pp. 83-84 of Quito 1599, determine the following: 1) assuming that you had as many documents like this one as you wanted, specify an event/phenomenon that you would want to study and indicate whether you are studying a fact verifiable as true or false, such as a matter of intention, or something that is not verifiable as true or false and why 2) state how your source base would skew your view of the past and why 3) specify your engagement with the event/phenomenon you have chosen to study.  For further details on what I am asking you to do here see pp. 79-84 in From Reliable Sources.
