Teaching philosophy

My job as teacher/instructor/facilitator is to:

·         Provide the optimal learning environment for the students in the class.

·          Provide a forum for students to learn information systems subject material, and to learn critical thinking and problem solving skills.

·        Develop curriculum to enhance standards of learning objectives.

·         Help students find experiential and service learning opportunities.

·         Help students develop internal discipline, find internal motivators, and develop leadership and managerial skills.

 

 

Professional experience

1980 – 2000     United States Army

Commissioned Officer

·         Analyst:  Conducted research, briefed dignitaries, and wrote articles and studies.

·         Assistant Professor of Military Science: Developed Military History course and gained university sanction for it at two Arizona universities – instructed same course and taught basic leadership; also developed and implemented software used to manage recruiting and operations.

·         Leader, trainer, manager:  coordinated and supervised training for units as large as 1000 people; managed logistics, construction, space utilization; developed automation and improved techniques which saved funds.

·         9 – 12th Grades: Instructed biology, zoology, microbiology, earth and life sciences.

·         Co-author of “The Cameron University Green Website Project – Part 1: Service Learning In The Fall 2009 CIS 4063 Capstone Course” and accepted by IABPAD 2010, Research Award Winning journal article.

·         Co-author of Examining Quantity and Types of Communication in Contributing to IS Project Success.  To be presented at the 2010 International Association of Computer Information Systems conference.  To be published in the IACIS journal.

·         Co-author of The Cameron University Green Website Project – Part 1: Service Learning In The Fall 2009 CIS 4063 Capstone Course.  Presented at the International Academy of Business and Public Administration, Spring 2010, Winner of a Research Award.  To be published in IABPAD’s International Journal of Education Research.

·         Co-author of Experiential Learning in the MIS Curriculum: What Do the Clients Say? Presented at the Federation of Business Disciplines Association of Business Information Systems, Spring 2010.

·         Co-author of Using Experiential Learning to Develop Communication Skill and Increase User Satisfaction with Student Developed Projects.  Chosen as the 2009 Best Paper Award for the Association of Business Information Systems.  Presented at the Federation of Business Disciplines Association of Business Information Systems conference, Spring 2009, published at the proceedings.  Also published in the Spring 2010 Journal of Business Information Systems

·         Co-author of Database Class Gives Hope to Local High School.  Presented at the Federation of Business Disciplines Southwest Association of Management conference, Spring 2009.

·         Conducted a workshop on online delivery methods at the Spring 2009 FBD Conference.

·         Supervised and completed the first ever combined CAPSTONE course service learning project – an online database for a local high school alumni association.

·         Completed Lawton Fire Department SCBA and Bottle Inventory Database, Spring, 2007.
