2. Course Prerequisites: 12 hours of CJ or department permission

3. Course Description: A comprehensive study of victimization; analysis of contemporary victim-assistance and victim compensation programs and related research; review of the historical importance of victim restitution as a basis for punitive criminal law.

4. Course Objectives: The objective of this course is to introduce the student to the study of Victimology. Upon completion of this course the student should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the past, present and future trends in victimization, as well as restitution and compensation programs; Apply theoretical and/or practical responses to issues involving victimization and victim assistance programs; Demonstrate the skills necessary to communicate effectively with both the victim and society; And, contribute to the lay and professional community's understanding of developments relating to the study of victimology.

6. Textbook: Victimology, Legal, Psychological and Social Perspectives by Harvey Wallace 

7. Optional Materials/References: May be suggested in class (Not required)

8. Evaluation Methods and Deadlines:

A. Examinations: This course will have four major tests. Daily quizzes may be given. If given they will count as 25 percent of the grade. Papers and Class Presentations will count the same as a regular test. These will be discussed the first few days of class.   B. Grading System: 90-100 ...A 80-89 ...B 70-79 ...C 60-69 ...D Below 60 ... F C. Retest Policy: All makeup exams must be taken at next class meeting. Student must notify instructor of absence prior to exam unless there is an emergency. If there is an emergency, the student should notify the instructor as soon as possible.   D. Course Policy: Non-attendance or ceasing to attend a class does not constitute official withdrawal. Your attendance is your responsibility. To officially withdraw from the university, follow the procedures listed in the Enrollment Schedule. Any member of this class who believes that he/she has a disability and is in need of special accommodations should notify the instructor immediately. The instructor will work with the student and the University's Office of Multicultural and Disabled Services to provide reasonable accommodations to ensure that the student has an equal opportunity to perform in this class.
