Course Description: A comprehensive study of victimization; analysis of contemporary victim-assistance and victim compensation programs and related research; review of the historical importance of victim restitution as a basis for punitive criminal law. 4. Course Objectives: The objective of this course is to introduce the student to the study of Victimology. Upon completion of this course the student should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the past, present and future trends in victimization, as well as restitution and compensation programs; Apply theoretical and/or practical responses to issues involving victimization and victim assistance programs; Demonstrate the skills necessary to communicate effectively with both the victim and society; And, contribute to the lay and professional community's understanding of developments relating to the study of victimology. 5.
