Poets & Writers Online - Online variant of the prestigious Poet's & Writers magazine. The site offers publishing advice, classifieds, literary links, and more.
Critical Reading and Thinking
Critical Reading - Information available on this site offers much insight into the fundamnetals of critical reading and effective writing, and includes sections on such matters as inference, ways to read, and grammar.

Activities for ESL Students - This useful web site includes a number of useful resources for those learning English as a second language.
Capital Community College's Guide to Grammar and Writing: Quizzes - This site offers a number of interactive quizzes with which to test and improve your understanding of grammar.
Digital Network English Language Practice - The DNELP site offers various grammar exercises devised by experts in the field to aid in the developemnt of writing and grammar usage skills.
KISS Grammar Site - "This site offers 1) numerous essays that explore the problem [of the way grammar is typically taught], 2) specific suggestions about what grammar should be taught in which grade levels (including explanations of how and why), and 3) a large selection of instructional material, including answer keys so that parents and teachers can study the KISS approach and decide for themselves if it makes sense" (Vavra).
National Writing Centers Associations - This site links to handouts from a variety of universities.
OnLine English Grammar - OEG offers access to both an online grammar guide and "The Test Centre," which makes available an assortment of interactive tests and educational games geared toward writing skills development.
University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Grammar Handbook - Online grammar guide composed by UI students under the direction of Professor Michael Pemberton.

Bartleby's Library - Famous Quotations - Searchable collection of famous, and some not-so-famous, quotes.
Bartleby's Library - Online Texts - Assortment of online texts, indexed by category: reference, verse, fiction, and nonfiction.
Harvard Uniersity's Chaucer Site - An intriguing and beautifully illustrated site dedicated to the study of Geoffrey Chaucer (ca1342-1400) and the time in which he lived.  Addresses such issues as the life and manners, science, and literary subjects of the day, and includes a section devoted to language and linguistics.  The site also provides online annotated segments of The Canterbury Tales
Literary and Cultural Theory at Oxford - Site maintained by the Faculty of Classics at the University of Oxford that offers information concerning the fields and schools of literary study and theorists such as Foucault.  Also provides access to theory journals such as The Journal of the History of Ideas and Poetics Today.
Literary Resources Page - Collection of links to English and American literature sites, as maintained by Jack Lynch at Rutgers University.
The Luminarium - Online anthology of Middle English, 16th Century Renaissance, and early 17th Century texts, indexed by author and period and supplemented with biographical information and critical essays.  Like Harvard's Chaucer site, it is beautifully illustrated.
Mr. William Shakespeare on the Internet - Site dedicated to Shakespeare studies that brings together a variety of such useful web resources as online versions of the plays and poems. criticism, study guides, and period information.  Quite useful.
Norton Topics Online - Web supplement to The Norton Anthology of English Literature, searchable by period and topic. The site includes, among other things, an overview of each period, excerpts from various period texts, and critical notes.
Oingo Literature Links - Site includes links to materials concerning multiple ethnic and national literatures, from African American to Zimbabwean.  Links to period materials (e.g., Modernism and Realism).
