Recycle Bins

J.Powell emailed that expanded mesh bins behind City Hall will be removed by Ft. Sill after the first of the year and their involvement with recycling in Lawton will end J.Claborn said Lawton citizens are not educated on how to recycle properly. J.Claborn says the School system is looking at a private  company to recycle since Ft. Sill is not picking up their materials anymore. A.Johari feels we need to educate the public on how to recycle properly. The question is how far along is the City in picking up where Ft. Sill leaves off? R.Bellino asked if the private sector is another resource. R.Little says there are businesses in the private sector looking at recycling in Lawton. General feeling is that Lawton must have a recycling center and we need to explore all possible avenues to keep the program going
D.Jones says we really do not know where the City is in this process and she will look into it for us and get back with us. We will await D. Jones  response before we go any farther.

Median Projects
K.Jackson  said Sheridan /Wal-mart is a work in progress. This median is 165 ft long and our largest so far. Cache/I-44 median has water in it already and will put drip system type irrigation for  12 crepe myrtles G.Catlett already has. Goal is to finish this median by end of the year. There is an unofficial turn around in this median that was placed there for the contractor’s convenience. There is concern it may cause a problem.  There is a concern with Naturescape responding to our concerns and K.Jackson will look at some at other landscapers. We need to look at expanding the signage so people can read it. Median on Gore across from City and Liberty banks may be our median for next year. We need the traffic engineer to look at this to make sure we are not obscuring line of sight of oncoming traffic before we proceed any farther. Future medians will be essentially masses of crepe myrtles. B. Hadley will check Gore across from the banks  with the traffic engineer since there are several median cuts in that area.

Underpass at Quanah Parker
B.Hadley said that Monkey Business will finish the underpass. The primer has been on it for a while and they were waiting to see if it peels. Monkey Business did not contract to put graffiti protection on . The graffiti protection has been purchased and stored waiting to be put on once the painting is finished.. None at present but we will have to get graffiti protection on as soon as possible once the mural is done.

Phone book recycling
Done a little late but K.McConnell had article/picture in the paper.

Fire Hydrant Painting

B.Hadley said they are going to oil based paint from Atwoods for the hydrants since it will have a better half life. B.Hadley said that volunteers can do it and they will need a sheet of instructions to tell them how to do it.

B.Hadley to provide a sheet of instructions on how to use the paint.

Currell Sign

Not removed

R.Bellino to talk with A.Griffith

Littering Fine

B.Hadley said there is a concern that fine for littering of $750.00 is so high that officer are hesitant to ticket perpetrators. However, the judge now has discretion to use community service as a way to pay the fine. There are still signs around the City reading $200.00

None at present
