Recycle program |
J. Powell says City still working on request for proposals. J.Claborn reported that J’s Recycling has placed all of his recycle bins around the City. They are for cardboard, tin, plastic and newspaper. The response has been overwhelming. They are out of the original 10 bins but have ordered more. A.Bolds said they have 2 at Taliaferro: one for cardboard and one for tin cans and newspaper. All bins are for pubic use. Anyone wanting a bin for their neighborhood should access J’s through lawtoninfo.com. At his location at 2nd and H he is taking #1 and #2 plastics. They also have bins for office white paper. J. Claborn said there is one place in Lawton that recycles glass. |
R. Bellino to ask J’s for list of present locations of bins and to list them on lawtoninfo.com. J.Claborn said she will check to see where glass is recycled in Lawton

Median Projects |
City does not have staff to maintain the medians. K. Jackson said he asked 4D for a quote to maintain one median. It was $1,680.00 per year. This was far beyond our budget. L.Moon has offered the Unitarian Church to maintain one median, i.e. the Comanche Memorial Median. L. Parks said he will maintain the 67th/Gore median. It was suggested that we put up signage to say who is doing the maintenance. LBI will incur any out of pocket expense. K.Jackson said he does not feel the Gore/Liberty Bank median the way he designed it should not be a problem with the line of sight. The cost that 4D gave was less than $3,000.00. This was essentially just crepe myrtles. R. Givens said we need to add flagstone around perimeter of median and R. Bellino suggested they do the watering system rather than Parks and Recreation doing it. We would suggest that whoever pays for the median do the maintenance. (Note there is a correction. The median is across from 40th st not Arlington)
|
R. Bellino said she will send a formal schedule/agreement to those willing to maintain a median.
Consider signage naming person/group maintaining the median. R. Bellino to check with other businesses if they are interested in maintaining medians

| Old Southwestern Hospital |
J. Claborn who has done much footwork on the old Southwestern Hospital presented Blaine Smith from ASCOG who presented information on old Southwestern Bldg. which is owned by the KCA. ASCOG received an assessment grant allowing them to review the hospital. They found that cost of removing contaminants is about $600,000.00, demolition costs of $210,000.00 and at least $105,000.00 in tipping fees. There is an EPA no interest loan available to remove contaminants. Since KCA cannot recoup this loan money back to pay off the loan it has no interest in doing anything with the hospital. |
