Recycle program

W.Jackson of J’s Recycling has about 10 bins out in the community. Most are for cardboard. He is ordering more. Locations can be found on Lawtoninfo.com. Three schools have shown interest in developing  recycling centers that can be used for the community. He is also working on curbside recycling. He also takes recyclables at H and 2nd and pays for certain materials such as aluminum. J.Powell stated the city is still working on its request for proposals.

The proposal to Liberty National Bank for the 40th and Gore median is done. This is the first “crepe myrtle” median.

R. Bellino will hand carry the proposal to a board member of Liberty National Bank

R. Bellino to present check to the winner and work to publicize the project

Maintenance Agreement for the medians

J.Vincent stated that these medians are very dangerous to work on.  LBI would incur liability for any serious accident that happened while volunteers worked on the medians. Also, liability for the 11th st project comes into question.

Meeting with Mr. Vincent and all the principals involved will take place in the following weeks before we proceed any further.

11th st project..

R, Bellino read the letter from McMahon Foundation granting $100,000.00 toward our 11th st project. There are 2 other  grants we have not heard from  for a total of $15,000.00. J. Vincent  said that he will meet with those involved sometime in the next few weeks. The meeting should include the assistant city manager, representatives from Parks and Recreation, street division, City planner, Councilman Mr. Haywood, airport manager, LETA, area churches and anyone else that would like to be involved in the process. R. Bellino stated that before we ever start the project we need to meet with all that live or work in the area since this project really belongs to them.

R. Bellino will write a letter in response to the McMahon Foundation grant as they have requested. The principals involved will meet with Mr. Vincent to discuss legal issues before we proceed. R. Bellino will contact Addie Smith who sits on the LETA Board and represents the Ranch Oaks and New Life Fellowship Church

Roger’s lane Project

Project has deteriorated significantly. G. Catlett has addressed the problems and has purchased battery operated timers for the watering systems and is redoing the drip irrigation system. The original system is easily damaged by mowers and weed eaters. We need to replace 55 red tip photinias.

International Festival September26th, 27, 28th

We need volunteers and brownie mix from SAMS. Leave with Mayor’s Secretary or at Dr. Bellino’s office. We do not make a lot of money but the exposure is important.

Old Southwestern Hospital

J.Claborn and R. Bellino will meet with the KCA in September. The removal of asbestos will cost close to a million dollars and this is not a viable solution. The concern for the community is improving the external appearance of the facility and even though it may never be used the external appearance can be improved with xeroscaping. A. Griffith said he has a group who will paint the building.

J. Claborn and R. Bellino to meet with KCA
