Dr. Joseph "Bud" Sahmaunt
     Education and athletics have been the cornerstone of Joseph H. "Bud" Sahmaunt's life.

     Sahmaunt earned his associate's degree from Cameron State Agriculture College in 1958, where he played basketball and baseball. Two years later, he graduated from Oklahoma City University (OCU) with a bachelor of science degree. He went on to earn a master of education degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1968 and a doctorate of education in 1999 from the University of Minnesota.

     Sahmaunt was a high school teacher and coach at Mustang and Elgin public school systems before moving into higher education. While at OCU, he held positions as a professor of education, Dean of the School of Education and director of athletics. Additionally, he served as the Assistant Administrator for Indian Education Section of Oklahoma Department of Education.

     Sahmaunt has been active in various professional education organizations, as well as volunteering at the Kiowa United Methodist Church and serving as co-chair of the Cameron University Ted Owens Recognition Committee.

     Sahmaunt's dedication has been recognized by several honors including the Distinguished Alumni Award at Cameron. He was also inducted into the American Indian Athletic Hall of Fame and the OCU Sports Hall of Fame.
