SUMMER POSITIONS
UPWARD BOUND AT
THE
PROGRAM
Upward
Bound is a federally funded educational opportunity program that prepares
eligible high school students to enter and succeed in post-secondary
education. The 6-week summer program includes
academic, cultural, and recreational activities.
RESIDENCE
HALL COUNSELOR/TUTORS: Must live in the residence hall with Upward
Bound students to promote educational aspiration and performance; supervise
students' free time; lead small groups, including planning and facilitating
educational, cultural, and recreational events; maintain communication with
academic staff regarding students’ progress in classes; assume responsibility
for one assigned aspect of residence hall program; handle routine discipline
problems; provide tutoring and advising to individuals and groups of students;
assist in monitoring the Food and Nutrition Program; promote a community of
mutual respect and trust. Multiple tutor/counselors will be hired.
Requirements: College juniors, seniors, or graduates (by the
beginning of the summer program). Solid academic record and excellent people
skills are required, and experience supervising youth is preferred. Experience
leading small groups and tutoring is desirable. Must live in the residence hall
May 27 – June 28 (weekends optional).
Compensation: $600 for the six-week program (Sunday evening
through Friday afternoon each week), including mandatory advance training and
planning time; room and board provided during the six-week session (meals not
provided Friday dinner through Sunday dinner); six hours paid tuition
(Oklahoma residents only)

HALL FLOOR SUPERVISOR: Must live in the residence hall with Upward
Bound students to promote educational aspiration and performance; supervise
students' free time; lead small groups, including planning and facilitating
educational, cultural, and recreational events; serve as supervisor for
residence hall counselor/tutors; maintain communication with academic staff
regarding students’ progress in classes; assume responsibility for one assigned
aspect of residence hall program; handle routine discipline problems; provide
tutoring and advising to individuals and groups of students; assist in
monitoring the Food and Nutrition Program; promote a community of mutual
respect and trust. Two floor supervisors will be hired; one female and one
male.
Requirements: College seniors or graduates (by the beginning of
the summer program). Solid academic record, excellent people skills, and
experience supervising youth required. Experience leading staff, small groups
and tutoring is desirable. Must live in the residence hall May 27 – June 28 (weekends
optional).
Compensation: $700 for the six-week program (Sunday evening
through Friday afternoon each week), including mandatory advance training and
planning time; room and board provided during the six-week session (meals not
provided Friday dinner through Sunday dinner); six hours paid tuition
