CLEP (College-Level Examination Program)
CLEP tests are given at the Testing Center by appointment one day a month, usually on the third Tuesday of every month at 9:00 a.m. & 1:30 p.m.. Most exams are scored immediately following the test. The English Composition exams takes 4 - 6 weeks to receive a score, and the Freshman College Composition exam takes 1-2 weeks. Most CLEP credits can be transferred to other colleges participating in CLEP programs. There is a six-month waiting period before a test may be repeated.
CLEP tests allow the examinee to earn college credit in a wide range of subject areas. A complete listing of available CLEP tests is listed at the bottom of this page.
To take a CLEP test call the Testing Center at 581-2502 to schedule an appointment. Study guides are available on CLEP's website for a small fee. You can also find study material at www.testprepreview.com. The Testing Center has a study guide that can be reviewed, but it cannot be taken out of the office, nor can it be copied. These books can be purchased at any bookstore.
On the day of the exam, arrive at the Testing Center (third floor, South Shepler) at least ten minutes before your scheduled exam. The test fee beginning July 1, 2009 will be $87 and will be paid in the form of two checks. Checks or money orders should be brought to the Testing Center on the day of the exam. Checks or money orders that need to be mailed can be sent to: Cameron University, Testing Center, 2800 West Gore Blvd., Lawton, OK 73505. One check (or money order) for $72 should be made payable to CLEP (Effective July 1, 2010 the fee for CLEP will increase to $77.00, which will make the total test fee $92.00). (Cash will not be accepted.) The other check for $15 should be made payable to Cameron. (Students taking the Freshman College Composition exam have an extra $10 fee for the essay. Therefore the fee is $97 total with $72 to CLEP and $25 to Cameron). The $72 fee to CLEP may be paid with a credit card. There is no charge for active duty military (a military ID is required). Students who do not have a check or money order payable to CLEP will not be admitted to the exam. A photo I.D. must be presented to be admitted to the test. Acceptable forms of I.D. include a driver's license, military I.D., or current passport.
Students enrolled at Cameron University may receive degree credit for post-secondary level extra-institutional learning related to subject areas, courses, and programs of study offered by Cameron University. The Vice President for Academic Affairs is responsible for developing and administering policies and procedures for awarding advanced standing credit. Advanced standing credit awards are made under policies and procedures designed to assure that reliable and valid measures of learning outcomes have been applied.
- A maximum of 45 semester hours of advanced standing credit may be applied toward the requirements for associate degrees. A maximum of 64 semester hours of advanced standing credit may be applied toward baccalaureate degree requirements.
- Advanced standing credit must be validated by successful completion of 12 or more semester hours at Cameron before being placed on the student's transcript. (Advanced standing credit awarded to military service personnel and their dependents will be placed on the transcript upon initial paid enrollment.)
- Advanced standing credit is identified on the transcript by the letters "A.S." following each course title.
- The "S" grade is assigned to credits earned by advanced standing.
- A score equivalent to a grade of "C" shall be used as the minimum passing score for institutionally prepared examinations.
- The Testing Director makes credit award recommendations using the appropriate guide and forwards it to the Registrar. A Cameron course prefix, number with dashes in place of the middle two digits, and a title from the guide used for evaluating the course will be assigned to a course not equivalent to a Cameron course.
- Registrar places credit on the student's transcript after 12 hours have been completed at Cameron.
