The AHEC Path

Mission:

Improving the health of medically underserved communities through recruitment, retention and enrichment of the healthcare workforce.

Departmental Objectives:

  • Create opportunities for school age children to learn about health career through job shadowing

  • Inform and educate school age children about various health careers

  • Support programs to encourage students to enroll in math and science

    Over 300 high school students participated in programs located in the SWAHEC service area during 09-10. Over the last three years 90% went on to college and of those 56% continued on a health career track!

  • Provide rural clinical rotations for medical students
  • Recruit for and support a Geriatric Scholars program
  • Provide Cancer Survivorship Education
