Welcome
from Dr. Karla Oty, Interim DeanThe School of Science and Technology is one of three academic Schools at Cameron University. The primary responsibility of Cameron University and the School of Science and Technology is providing students the highest quality educational experience possible. In order to meet that mission the School recognizes the importance of effective communication as well as a caring and helpful attitude. You will find that most offices have an open door policy and that our secretaries and support staff are dedicated to assisting students in all aspects of their academic endeavors. | |
Faculty members strive to provide effective teaching in the classrooms and laboratories. But, they also provide far more: e.g. student advising, career counseling, internship arrangements and experiential learning opportunities. Additionally, faculty members are, now more than ever, providing an interesting array of student research projects, many of which may be done jointly with them and most of which result in reports and/or manuscripts for publication as well as for student presentation at professional meetings.
The School's facilities are extensive. Departments are located all across campus:
- Agriculture - South Shepler
- 38th Street Animal and Plant Science Buildings
- University and Lawrence Farms - Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences and the Dean's Office - Sciences Complex
- Mathematical Sciences and Military Science - Burch Hall
- MultiMedia Design - CETES and
- Computing & Technology - Howell Hall.
Modern instructional technologies and computer laboratories exist in each department. The new Sciences Complex has well-equipped teaching laboratories, three student/faculty research laboratories and support space as well.
The School of Science and Technology also embraces the interactive university philosophy. As stated by Former Provost Terral McKellips, "that philosophy requires the institution to lose its identity as a separate entity in its environment, to merge itself with its environment, to become a stakeholder in the environment, and to make collaboration and cooperation with other educational organizations, governmental agencies and commercial enterprises a primary function of the university." You will encounter many examples of this philosophy as you examine the informative pages which follow.
