Last summer, the town started

stuffing prairie dogs.  At first,

it was only the Home Ec teacher

but soon the entire morning coffee crew

was pitching in.  It began right after

the discovery:  the exact dirt mound

where the Lewis and Clark expedition

spotted their first prairie dog.

They’ve posted the excerpts

on a website, designed it

to accept orders in four languages –

three of which no one in town can speak.

They’ve erected a sign,

a historical marker that stands

as proof of their significance.
