Green to Gold Active Duty Option

Green To Gold is a program  identifies Soldiers who are currently on active duty who demonstrate officer potential.  The program allows enlisted Soldiers to earn an officer's commission and college degree (bachelors or masters) as full time students through Army ROTC.

 There are three Green To Gold Options: Active Duty Option, Scholarship Option, and Non-Scholarship Option.   Each has different eligibility requirements and benefits.

 Basic requirements include: NON WAIVERABLE

  • 110 GT score.
  • No permanent profiles.
  • US citizen.
  • Not a single parent.
  • Eligible to reenlist.

 ACTIVE DUTY OPTION - most competitive option, most benefits.

Soldier remains on Active Duty while going to school full time, retains all pay and allowances.

Competitive -- 200 openings available each year across the Army.                 

Cameron University has had more Active Duty Option winners than any other college in America. Applicants submit a packet to Cadet Command NLT 1 APR. Results are announced in early June.

             Additional eligibility requirements:

  • At least 60 college credits and able to complete degree in 2 years (bachelor or masters).
  • 2.5 GPA on completed college work.
  • Under age 35 at time of commissioning.

 SCHOLARSHIP OPTION­ - does not require any previous college credit. HS graduates or GED holders are eligible.

Soldier is discharged under Chapter 16-2 to attend school full time for 2, 3, or 4 years.

Scholarship pays full tuition, mandatory fees, $1200/year for books, and monthly stipend  $300 - $500.

Competitive -- approx. 300 scholarships awarded each year across the Army.

Applicants submit a packet to Cadet Command NLT 1 APR (spring board) or 1 OCT (fall board).

             Additional eligibility requirements:

  • SAT score of 920 or ACT score of 19 (if less than 30 college credits earned).
  • 2.5 GPA on completed college work (or HS GPA if less than 1 college semester completed).
  • Under age 31 at time of commissioning.

 NON-SCHOLARSHIP OPTION - not competitive; allows simultaneous participation in National Guard or Reserve.

Soldier is discharged under Chapter 16-2 to attend school full time.

Student is responsible for tuition, fees, etc.

  • Soldiers will receive a monthly stipend of $450-$500 while in the program.
  • MGIB, student loans, and other financial aid may be used.
  • Participants may serve in Guard or Reserve while in ROTC and receive tuition benefits.

             This option is not competitive -- all soldiers that meet eligibility criteria are accepted.  Application is submitted to and reviewed by the ROTC department of the college you wish to attend.      

No deadline for application. May start school in fall or spring semester.

             Additional eligibility requirements:

  • At least 60 college credits and able to complete degree in 2 years (bachelor or masters).
  • 2.0 GPA on completed college work.
  • Under age 39 at time of commissioning.

 Cameron University ROTC is the partner battalion for Ft. Sill and is responsible for assisting soldiers with Green To Gold regardless of where they choose to attend college. Eligible Soldiers may attend college at Cameron University,  Or choose to attend one of the other 270 colleges and universities that have Army ROTC programs.

 A Green To Gold briefing is held every month at the Ft. Sill Education Center, building 3281 Sheridan Road. It is given on the second Wednesday of each month from 1330-1430. No appointment is required.

Green to Gold Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP)

Students enrolled in the Simultaneous Membership Program are afforded the opportunity to gain valuable experience as Officer Trainees in an Army Reserve or National Guard unit. You will be placed in charge of an actual Army unit under the close supervision of an Army Officer. Establishing organizational objectives and training priorities are only a small part of what will be expected of you as an Officer Trainee. SMP cadets learn first hand what kind of leadership works and what kind doesn't. They will get an understanding of small group dynamics in a manner unparalleled during their college careers. The Simultaneous Membership Program is only available to students who have completed Army Basic Training or equivalent training from one of our sister services.  Financial assistance maybe available as well as tax free stipends and kickers.

Scholarships

The Army ROTC Scholarship Program provides financial assistance for the education and training of highly qualified and motivated men and women who desire to be commissioned as officers in the Army after graduation from college.

Incentives

  • ROOM AND BOARD WAIVERS (free room & board):
    For all 4-Yr scholarship winners and 3-Yr Advanced Designees.
  • For Green to Gold 4, 3, & 2-Yr scholarship winners.
  • For other ROTC Cadets with demonstrated financial need on a case by case basis.
  • OUT OF STATE TUITION WAIVERS (in state tuition rate for out-of-state students):
  • For ROTC students from the Wichita Falls, Texas area who attend Cameron University.
  • TUITION WAIVERS (free tuition):
  • For selected ROTC students based on HS GPA, ACT Test score, College GPA.
