Cameron University to present CU Empowering Women in Leadership and STEM Conference

Cameron University will present CU Empowering Women in Leadership and STEM, a conference aimed at strengthening the leadership skills of women, on Friday, February 23. The keynote address will be presented by internationally renowned senior executive coach Charmaine McClarie. The program is open to the public at no cost and takes place in the McCasland Ballroom in the McMahon Centennial Complex.

Charmaine McClarieA widely recognized executive coach and leadership presence authority, McClarie, is a faculty member at the University of Missouri, Kansas City Bloch School of Management, and a current visiting lecturer at Smith College. She has shared her expertise in leadership acumen, communications ability and executive presence with leaders in 27 industries across five continents. Nearly all of her clients are promoted within 18 months. McClarie has been profiled in People, Forbes, Harvard Management Update, The London Times and The New York Times. She states that her role is to help individuals “make change so you can consistently live up to your potential and give others in your organization permission to live up to theirs.”

7 p.m.: Panel Discussion 

This panel will expose students to local women in leadership roles and will focus on executive leadership development by providing the strategies, visions, and values that are required to advance in leadership roles within varied disciplines. The discussion will include strategies to: (1) become a valued business partner, (2) communicate with influence, (3) speak with elegance and confidence, (4) engage and inspire others, and (5) embody your message.

8 p.m.: Reception/Networking

The evening will culminate with a mixer to encourage participants to network and build further connections with local women in leadership.

“CU Empowering Women in Leadership and STEM” is sponsored by CU Lectures and Concerts, the CU Home Savings Bank Endowed Lectureship in Organizational Leadership and Cameron University. The series is a joint venture between the Department of Mathematical Sciences, the Department of Chemistry, Physics and Engineering, MathCom, CU Engineering Club and Sigma Tau Delta.
