In observance of #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration, the Cameron University Foundation is asking CU supporters to save the date of Tuesday, November 28 and to make their annual contribution on Giving Tuesday. On that day, CU supporters are encouraged to make a gift of $17 and to challenge 17 friends to do the same – all within the span of 24 hours. Proceeds will be used to provide student scholarships. To make a donation, go to www.cameron.edu/cugivingtuesday on Tuesday, November 28. Then, use your social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and/or Snapchat using #CUGIVINGTUESDAY to challenge 17 friends to do the same.
“Scholarships are a key component in Cameron’s ability to help students graduate with little or no debt,” says Lorie Garrison, Director of Development at CU. “Although the Cameron University Foundation provides ample scholarship opportunities each year, we want to increase that level of financial assistance through ‘The Power of 17.’ A $17 gift from one individual may seem insignificant, but when stacked with other $17 gifts, that initial $17 can change a life. #CUGIVINGTUESDAY is the perfect opportunity to invest in a Cameron University student by contributing to scholarships.”
In addition to the call for donations, Cameron University will participate in #GivingTuesday as CU students will visit local elementary schools to read to the elementary students.
Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.
