In conjunction with Cameron University’s Academic Festival X: American Identities in the 21st Century, the university will launch the Festival X Reading Series with poet Sly Alley on Saturday, November 18. The award- winning poet will read from “Strong Medicine” at Sigma Tau Delta’s Monthly Open Mic at 6:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Lawton, located at 701 S.W. B Avenue.
“Strong Medicine,” Alley’s first book of poetry, was awarded the 2017 Oklahoma Book Award for Poetry. It has been hailed as a “striking, relevant warning against the petulance that grips the current disposition of American society and politics.”
Alley’s works have been published in “The Muse” and “Dragon Poet Review” and have been presented at the Howlers and Yawpers Creativity Symposium at Seminole State College and the 2015 Woody Guthrie Festival in Okemah. He works out of a fortified shack in Tecumseh, Oklahoma.
