The Cameron University Department of History and Government and student organization Student Advocates for Political Action (SAPA) have a message for community members as well as Cameron students, faculty and staff: Your Vote Counts! Representatives from both organizations will host a voter registration drive from Monday, January 25 through Thursday, January 28 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the McMahon Centennial Complex.
Oklahoma’s presidential preferential primary will take place on Tuesday, March 1; the deadline to register in order to cast a vote is February 5. Because Oklahoma has a closed primary system, only voters who are registered members of a recognized political party may vote for the party’s candidates in primary and runoff primary elections. Registered independent voters may be eligible to vote in party primaries and runoff primaries if authorized by the party.
Registering to vote is easy. Simply fill out a voter registration form, then sign and date the form.
Citizens who are already registered but wish to change their name, address or political affiliation can also do so by simply completing a new voter registration application form. Those wishing to change political affiliation may only do so prior to April 1 or after August 31.
Completed application forms will be delivered to the State Election board. Once the county election board has approved your approval, you will receive a voter identification card – which will list the polling place for your precinct - in the mail.
