Cameron University staff members selected to receive Pickaxe Award - Fall 2016

Cameron University staff members Dee Griggs and Ashim Ghimire are the recipients of the 2016 Pickaxe Awards, which recognize full-time Cameron employees whose performance is above and beyond expectations. Griggs is the ITS Technician for the CU-Duncan campus, and Ghimire serves as CU’s Systems Administrator. Each received a $1,000 stipend and a commemorative award.

The Pickaxe AwarAshim Ghirmire and Dee Griggsd is presented annually to recognize full-time employees whose performance exceeds the expectations of their job descriptions. The award recipients have made a contribution and/or commitment that has resulted in a significant difference to Cameron students, visitors, or other employees, or whose commitment to their job responsibilities, department, or the university stands out as a clear example to all other employees. Award recipients must have been employed full-time at least one year at Cameron. Nominations were made by Cameron students, faculty and staff. Recipients were selected by the university’s Executive Council.

Griggs was recognized for the quality and scope of her work and “the positive aura she creates.” One nominator wrote, “Although much of her work is related to technology, her real goal is to ensure the technology works in a way that best serves the users. She works for our students, faculty, staff and constituents rather than working on equipment.” The nominator went on to cite Griggs’ “great positive attitude, absolute belief in teamwork, and a consistent practice of kindness and respect toward others.”

Ghimire was cited by numerous nominators for his proficiency and work ethic. One nominator wrote, “He is a self-learner researching and implementing technology that moves Cameron forward. He is always willing to share his expertise and knowledge so that other employees can benefit and grow. Ashim goes the extra mile to assist and guide other Cameron employees and students.” Another noted, “He has always given the maximum commitment to his job. No matter how stressful the situation may be, Ashim maintains a calm, kind and courteous demeanor, acting not only as a subject-matter expert but also as an example to his co-workers.”
