Cameron University’s Bill W. Burgess, Jr. Business Research Center (BBRC) will host a business forum focusing on agriculture on Thursday, March 31, at 1 p.m. in the CETES Conference Center. The keynote speaker will be Jim Reese, Oklahoma Secretary of Agriculture, who will address the economic outlook for agricultural technological advances as well as challenges in agriculture. The forum is open to the public at no charge.
“The recent focus on the state’s economy has been on the oil and gas sector, yet any discussion of Oklahoma’s economy must include the agricultural sector,” says Dr. Syed Ahmed, Director, BBRC. “Agriculture has long played a significant role in Oklahoma’s growth and development. According to the Oklahoma Department of Commerce, Oklahoma’s agricultural tradition and history of innovation with large investments in life sciences and agricultural research, combined with a skilled workforce, local capital and technical support, continues to experience improvements in crop yields and management efficiencies.”
A panel discussion will take place following Secretary Reese’s presentation. Joining the panel will be Dr. Leon Fischer, Chair, Cameron University Department of Agriculture; John Grunewald, President/CEO, Farm Credit of Western Oklahoma; and Jim Kinder, farmer/agronomist.
