Cameron University staff members honored by Western Association of Veterans Education Specialists

Cameron University staff members Vicki Henson and Catherine Orozco-Christmas, were honored with awards during the recent meeting of the Western Association of Veterans Education Specialists (WAVES) in Anaheim, Calif. Orozco-Christmas received the President’s Award, and Henson was honored with the Past President’s Award. WAVES provides training and fosters communication and cooperation between all concerned and interested institutions and agencies on matter affecting the education of and the application/processing/and serving of those eligible to receive VA Educational benefits on college campuses.

Henson, Coordinator of Veteran Affairs, was honored in appreciation of her outstanding leadership as president of the organization from July 2013 to July 2015. She will now serve a two-year term as Past President. She previously served as WAVES President from 2007 to 2009. Henson is the 2003 recipient of the WAVES Bill Pearson Lifetime Achievement Award and also received the President’s Award in 2006.

Orozco-Christmas, Certification Specialist in the Office of Veteran Affairs, was recognized for her outstanding contributions to WAVES as a young professional in assisting with the planning and execution of this conference and several conferences in the last several years. She joined the Cameron staff in August 2012.
