Cameron University to observe Veterans Day with Remembrance Roll Call, American flag display and more

photo of American flags on displayCameron University will honor the national observance of Veterans Day 2015 with a series of events to recognize both active duty and retired members of the U.S. armed forces. Veterans Day takes place on Wednesday, November 11.

“Cameron University is privileged to honor both retired and active duty service members whose daily sacrifices preserve our freedom,” says Cameron President John McArthur. “We invite community members from throughout southwest Oklahoma to join us for this recognition and appreciation of our country’s veterans, whose contributions to our country cannot be understated.”

President McArthur will be joined by Major General John G. Rossi, Commanding General, Fires Center of Excellence and Fort Sill, for a special ceremony at 1 p.m. in Veterans Grove, located on the north side of Howell Hall. The ceremony will begin with a minute of silence to honor our nation’s veterans and active duty service men and women, followed by the reading of the names of those lives lost since last Veterans Day as part of the National Remembrance Roll Call.

Cameron will also display more than 6,750 American flags in Bentley Gardens. Each flag represent a life lost in the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.  

Cameron University and Sodexo will provide a complimentary meal to active duty military and veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Shepler Cafeteria.
