Despite being depleted by illness, the Cameron University forensics team continued its competition season at the Sweetheart Swing tournament at the University of Oklahoma. The Aggies faced competitors from 16 colleges and universities from Alabama, Virginia, Oklahoma, Colorado, Missouri and Texas. With only four competitors able to make the trip, the team still managed to win the Top Oklahoma Team award and placed third in debate sweepstakes.
In Parliamentary Debate, the team of Alex Amos, Broken Arrow, and Elizabeth Good, Tipton, were named co-tournament champions. Amos was named first place speaker.
Other team members competing were Cody Jackson, Lavon, Texas, and Katelynn Wright, Geronimo.
“I am very proud of these four Cameron competitors,” says Sarah Collins, Director of Forensics. “With most of their teammates out sick, they stepped up in different events and did a wonderful job.”
The team next heads to the Fifth Annual Oklahoma Intercollegiate Forensics Association Tournament, which serves as the Oklahoma state tournament and the Oklahoma Interstate Oratorical Association National qualifier.
