The Cameron University Department of Sports and Exercise Science will host the Second Annual Outdoor Youth Expo: Building a Healthier Community One Family at a Time, in Medicine Park on Saturday, April 18. The family friendly event lasts from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is geared toward children from kindergarten through eighth grade. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Participation is free, although advance registration is requested. To register, go to www.cameron.edu/2015Expo. For additional information, call the Department of Sports and Exercise Science at 581-2400.
“This event will encourage kids to embrace the great outdoors as a way of living a healthy lifestyle,” says Tyson Chambers, an instructor in the Department of Sports and Exercise Science. “Our theme is inspired by Cameron’s current Academic Festival, ‘Sustainability: Challenges and Opportunities.’”
Participants will receive instruction in fishing, archery, canoeing, kayaking, biking and hiking. Information on nutrition, safety, outdoor survival and more will also be featured. Sessions will be hosted by Cameron students as well as representatives from the Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge. Base Camp, a local outfitter, is providing sponsorship of canoeing and kayaking activities.
