Cameron University Department of Music and Southwest Oklahoma Opera Guild to present “Because You’re You!” Opera Workshop (copy)

The Cameron University Department of Music will present “Because You’re You!”, an opera workshop which will showcase the vocal versatility of 11 Cameron music students. Performances will take place on Friday, October 9, and Saturday, October 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the McCutcheon Recital Hall. Tickets are $10; CU students are admitted free with CU id. The Opera Workshop is sponsored by the Southwest Oklahoma Opera Guild.

"Opera demands that performers tackle the tremendous vocal challenges presented throughout each scene, while also pressing them to convey the gravity of the plot and the emotions of the characters they are portraying,” says Patrick Callaghan, a faculty member in the Department of Music who will direct the performances.

Student performers are Haleigh Adams, Lorenzo Butler, Jamie Hatcher, Natasha Snavely, Haleigh Sweeden, Roxanne Walton and Reagan Williams, all of Lawton; Katie Baxter, Hobbs, N.M.; Nathan Butler, Duncan; Gabrial Caron, Altus; and Victor Effiong, Cross River State, Nigeria.

They will perform selections from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Don Giovanni,” Donizetti’s “Don Pasquale,” Carl Maria von Weber’s “Der Freischütz,” and Kurt Weill’s “Street Scene.”
