Cameron University students win awards at state broadcast competition

Cameron University broadcast students won five awards in the 25th annual student competition sponsored by the Oklahoma Broadcast Education Association (OBEA). MaKenzie Burk, Alexis Page, Todd Spargo, all of Lawton; and Kaley Neal, Duncan, were honored for their entries.  They received their awards last week during the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters’ (OAB) Annual Student Day.

“This is just another example of the great work our students are creating” said Steve Adams, Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication. “This competition has become more competitive over the years. I’m pleased with the results.”

Cameron students swept the top three awards in the Radio Newscast category, with Spargo winning first, Neal finishing second, and Page earning the third place berth. In addition, Burk won second in the Television Public Service Announcement category, and Spargo earned third place in the Radio Commercial category.

Eleven Cameron students attended the Annual Student Day, which included a job fair featuring Oklahoma radio and television stations, as well as sessions on sports play-by-play and news decision-making.
