Mitchell named Senior Director of Public Affairs

Keith Mitchell has been selected as Cameron University’s Senior Director of Public Affairs. The University of Oklahoma, Cameron University and Rogers State University Board of Regents approved Mitchell’s appointment earlier today.

As Senior Director of Public Affairs, Mitchell will direct the communication, public relations and marketing functions of the university.  Offices under his management include: printing services, KCCU and public affairs, which includes the university’s media relations, marketing and web management operations. 

Mitchell has more than 30 years of media, communications and public relations experience including nearly 20 years in university and public school communications.  Most recently as Executive Director of Communications for the Lawton Public Schools, he served as a member of the superintendent’s senior staff and oversaw all aspects of the school district’s communications, including media requests, social media, crisis communications, and management of the district’s cable television operation and website.  Prior to that he worked at Cameron University in numerous roles including Vice President for University Advancement and Director of Media and Public Relations.

A native of Mountain View, Mitchell holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication/Journalism from Cameron University and a Master of Science in Mass Communication from Oklahoma State University.  In addition, Mitchell received the Carl Albert Fellowship for studying public policy and government relations. 

Mitchell is a member of the Cameron University Alumni Association, Lawton-Fort Sill Military Child Education Committee, Lawton Chamber of Commerce Education Committee and the Frederick Boy Scout Troop Committee. 

His honors include the “Best of Show” award in the Oklahoma College Public Relations Association annual competition, Distinguished Merit and Scoutmaster of the Year from the Black Beaver District Boy Scouts of America, and the Editorial Gold Award from the Parenting Media Association for his education articles in “Red River Family Magazine.”
