The Cameron University Department of Music will present the CU Guitar Ensemble in concert on Thursday, October 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the McCutcheon Recital Hall. Featured guitarists are Trevor Campbell, Lawton; Tyler Farmer, Geronimo; Samuel Phillips, Sallisaw; and Wesley Stafford, Gulfport, MS.. The CU Guitar Ensemble is directed by Dr. Kirsten Underwood. Admission is free. Seating is limited to 80 patrons.
The program will feature pieces from all major style periods, including both transcriptions and original works for guitar ensemble. The evening will begin with Renaissance works by Pisador, Encina, Gastoldi and Heintz. Students will perform the famous “Canon” by Johann Pachelbel, and Johan Roman’s Larghetto and Allegro from “Sinfonia XX.” The famous “Gymnopedie No. 1” by Eric Satie will be featured, as will two Brazilian pieces – “Recordacoes do Passado” and “Cavaquinho Porque Choras” by Ernesto Nazareth. The evening will conclude with “Three Entertainments for Guitar Quartet – Summer Rain, Top Hat and Fiesta” by contemporary guitar composer and arranger Kevin Love
