Cameron University Concert Band to pay tribute to America during upcoming concert

The Cameron University Concert Band, made up on music majors, minors and non-majors, will salute America during a concert slated for Thursday, October 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the University Theatre. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students and senior adults. Cameron students, faculty and staff with CU I.D. are admitted at no charge.

The Cameron University Concert Band performs at a variety of events throughout the academic year. The group is conducted by Dr. Matthew Mireles, Assistant Professor of Music and Joye R. Lentz Endowed Professor.

“Our fall concert is a tribute to America,” says Mireles. “We are performing music by American composers and pieces that relate to many of our nation’s values and history.  We are also honored to have our choir director, Dr. Patrick Callaghan, singing a gorgeous arrangement of ‘America, the Beautiful’ with us.”

In addition to “America, The Beautiful,” the concert will include John Philip Sousa’s “The Liberty Bell,” “Danse Carnivale” by Randall Standridge, “Kaddish” by Francis McBeth; “Blessed Are They” by Johannes Brahms; “Firetower” by Mike Forbes; and “An American Elegy” by Frank Ticheli.
