The Cameron University Department of Agriculture, in conjunction with the Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association, Oklahoma State University Cooperative Extension Service and the Comanche County Cattlemen’s Association, will host the 28th Annual Beef Cattle Improvement Conference on Thursday, November 19. Feature speakers will be Larry Hawkins, DVM; Michael Kelsey, Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association (OCA); and Marty New and Gant Mourer, Oklahoma State Cooperative Extension Service. The event starts at 6 p.m. in the McCasland Ballroom of the McMahon Centennial Complex. There is no charge to attend. “The beef cattle industry plays a vital role in the state’s economy, especially in southwest Oklahoma,” says Dr. Leon Fischer, Mary Dixie Mullin Endowed Chair in the Sciences and Chair, CU Department of Agriculture. “Cameron’s annual Beef Cattle Improvement Conference will focus on areas of interest to all beef producers and will provide information that can help ranchers maximize the value of their herds.”
Kelsey, Executive Vice President of OCA, will present a legislative update. New, Area Livestock Specialist, and Mourer, Beef Value Enhancement Specialist for the Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service, will focus on “Adding Value to Your Calf Crop,” and Hawkins, senior technical service veterinarian at Bayer Animal Health, will speak on “Innate Immunity and Bovine Respiration Disease” as well as providing an update on fly control.
