Cameron University’s Department of Theatre Arts will conduct open auditions for “The Breasts of Tiresias,” the first production of the season, on Tuesday, August 18, and Wednesday, August 19. Auditions will take place at 7 p.m. in the University Theatre. Numerous roles are available.
Written in 1903 by Guillaume Apollinaire, “The Breasts of Tiresias” is a surrealistic whirlwind of images and dialogue. Tired of life as a submissive wife and unwilling to bear children, Thérèse decides to become a man. Her breasts float away like two balloons, and she is renamed Tiresias. Her abandoned husband, striving for wealth, gives birth to over 40,000 children all in one afternoon as children become commodities. In the end, the husband and wife relent their positions on childbearing and are reunited. The production is slated for October 1-4 and will also serve as Cameron’s entry in the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. Warning: This production contains material that certain people may find objectionable.
