Cameron University to hold auditions for musical theatre production, “110 in the Shade”

The Cameron University Departments of Theatre Arts and Music will continue “A Celebration of the Year of Sustainability:  Challenges and Opportunities” with auditions for the musical comedy, “110 in the Shade.” Auditions will be held on Sunday, February 8, and Monday, February 9, at 7 p.m. in the University Theatre. Those auditioning should bring a memorized song from a Broadway musical along with the appropriate sheet music and should wear clothes that they are comfortable moving in.

“110 in the Shade” is N. Richard Nash’s adaptation of his romantic comedy, “The Rainmaker” with music by Harvey Schmidt and lyrics by Tom Jones. The story focuses on Lizzie Curry, a spinster living on a ranch in the American Southwest, and her relationships with local sheriff File, a cautious divorcé who fears being hurt again, and charismatic con man Bill Starbuck, posing as a rainmaker who promises the locals he can bring relief to the drought-stricken area.

This production is sponsored in part by the Richard T. Brittingham, M.D., Musical Theatre Endowed Lectureship.  It will be presented from April 23-26.
