Following approval earlier today by the University of Oklahoma, Cameron University and Rogers State University Board of Regents, Cameron University has set housing and board rates for the 2014-2015 academic year. The new rates are effective August 1, 2014.
“Campus housing remains a popular option for many Cameron students,” says Cameron President John McArthur. “We take pride in our ability to offer affordable housing options. This year, Cameron’s rate for room and board averages $4,664, considerably less than the national average of $9,672. We are committed to maintaining Cameron Village as a premier residence and to continuing to upgrade the Shepler residence halls.”
Rates for residential apartments in Cameron Village and residence hall rooms in the Shepler Center will increase to allow the university to continue modernizing the Shepler housing units and to continue maintenance of Cameron Village. In order to maintain Cameron Village, opened in 2005, it has been necessary to replace flooring, furniture and appliances in a majority of the apartments, with some apartments requiring more extensive work. The university will continue to modernize the Shepler residence halls, opened in 1969. Last year, one floor of North Shepler was converted to 32 single rooms, and bathrooms on two floors were updated and modernized.
Even with the increase, Cameron’s residence hall rates are significantly lower than the rates at similar facilities at peer institutions.

(The rates listed for Shepler do not include a required $121 per semester fee for cable, internet, phone and the Student Housing Association.)
An increase in board meal plans will ensure access to quality food at times convenient to students and will offset increases in costs associated with the university’s food service contract and for cafeteria renovations and equipment.
Even with the modest increases for food services, Cameron students will continue to pay less than most students at comparable universities in the state and significantly less than the national average, paying only 48% of the national average.
