Cameron Army ROTC cadets commissioned as second lieutenants

Fifteen graduating seniors from Cameron University's Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program were commissioned as Second Lieutenants (2LT) during a ceremony held at the McCasland Ballroom on the Cameron University campus on May 10.

Cadets and their branch assignments are:

  • 2LT Kelly J. Carey, Adjutant General Corps
  • 2LT Kaleb M. Castillo, Military Intelligence Corps and Branch Detailed Armor
  • 2LT Rebecca E. Espinosa, Adjutant General Corps
  • 2LT Brandon S. Ferraz, Corps of Engineers
  • 2LT Patrick J. Fleming, Quartermaster Corps
  • 2LT Miguel A. Gonzalez, Adjutant General Corps
  • 2LT Gillian L. Haddox, Quartermaster Corps
  • 2LT Charles L. Holbrook III, Adjutant General Corps and Branch Detailed Infantry
  • 2LT Johnnie C. Kaapuwai, Quartermaster Corps
  • 2LT Colten R. Kennedy, Military Intelligence Corps
  • 2LT Sammie L. Martin, Medical Service Corps
  • 2LT Brandan C. Purdeu, Adjutant General Corps and Branch Detailed Infantry
  • 2LT Christopher A. Vicks, Signal Corps

Graduating seniors compete against more than 6,000 cadets nationwide for branch choices and selection for active service Army. A centralized selection board at the Department of the Army considers several factors in making branch assignments, including Army needs, each cadet's field of study and overall scholastic performance.

Cadets in CU’s Comanche Battalion must meet rigorous physical fitness demands, achieve satisfactory evaluations in leadership skills, support the community through various service-related activities, and, as a senior, serve as mentors to the junior class members, all while maintaining a minimum overall GPA of 2.0, a 3.0 in military science, and a 3.2 or above for competitive active duty positions.
